Good afternoon.
It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the Botanical Gardens for the 83rd Annual Agricultural Exhibition. As we gather here today, surrounded by the natural beauty of these grounds, I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Department of Parks, the tireless organisers of this event.
Their dedication and hard work have transformed these gardens into a spectacular venue for our celebration of Bermuda's agricultural heritage.
To the families, children and every member of the public joining us today—and to those who will visit us over the next three days—thank you. Your presence breathes life into this event and underscores the vibrant community spirit that thrives in Bermuda.
This exhibition is an excellent opportunity for each of us to reconnect with our Island's roots. Our agricultural heritage is vital to who we are as Bermudians, and I encourage you to immerse yourselves in the learning, entertainment and fun that will be on offer. During my walkabout yesterday – I was so impressed by the significant number of students who submitted drawings – every vacant space in the Visitors Centre is covered with their artwork.
Speaking of that, I am excited about the number and calibre of displays this year, as well. From the array of animals to the beautiful plants that showcase our Island's biodiversity, there is something here to captivate the hearts of all ages.
Special thanks to those who have played pivotal roles in bringing this exhibition to life: Mr. Roger Parris, the Acting Senior Superintendent at the Parks Department; the Bermuda Equestrian Federation; the Bermuda Rose Society; the Bermuda poultry fanciers Society; and not to forget, the more than 30 vendors and the numerous public and private schools participating this year. Your contributions are invaluable.
I also want to acknowledge Mr. Antwan Albouy, the planner of this year’s exhibition, for his vision and coordination, which have been central to organising this event.
Let us also applaud the incredible efforts of the 1,880 exhibitors whose contributions have enriched this year's show. Your participation is what truly makes this event a cornerstone of our cultural calendar.
As we kick off these next three days, I invite everyone to explore, learn, and, most importantly, have fun. This is your show, Bermuda. Let's make this Ag Show a resounding success!
It is my pleasure to declare this 83rd Annual Agricultural Exhibition officially open. Thank you.
