“We are proud to support the training and development of our new recruits, and we are confident that they will make a valuable contribution to the Department of Corrections,” said Minister of National Security, the Hon. Michael Weeks, JP, MP, of the latest drive to bolster the ranks of Corrections Officers on the Island.

Minister Weeks also stated: “We understand the challenges that come with the job of a Corrections Officer and I support the training and development of our new recruits.

“A career as a Corrections Officer is a great career option for Bermudians who are looking for a challenging but rewarding career that can lead to professional development and community appreciation.”

Nine new recruits began their introductory training programme earlier this month, aspiring to join the ranks of full-time corrections officers. This comprehensive 12-week curriculum encompasses all the essential elements necessary for their success and competency in their future roles.

The course includes instruction on pertinent legislation, such as the Prison Act 1970 and the Criminal Code Amendment Act 2001, along with various other legal statutes.

Commissioner of Corrections, Keeva Joell-Benjamin, added: “We are glad to welcome these new recruits to our team. We continue to be focused on providing the highest quality of training to our future officers.

“We are confident that they will be well-prepared to serve the community and maintain public safety.”

The Department of Corrections plans to hold another recruitment drive in the near future.
