Monday Aug. 28 Update Hurricane Franklin ~ Tropical Storm Watch in Effect for Bermuda

With the approach of Hurricane Franklin, a Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for Bermuda.

And as Bermuda prepares for the effects of Franklin, a category 4 hurricane, the Minister of National Security, Michael Weeks said, “As we can see by recent activity, hurricane season has intensified, and these next two months will certainly test our readiness, resilience, and resolve.”

Minister Weeks continued, “While we are closely monitoring the approach of Hurricane Franklin, our attention is also focused on Tropical Storm Idalia, currently in the western Caribbean. While its trajectory remains uncertain, current forecasts suggest it might approach our vicinity over the upcoming weekend with the potential for prolonged tropical force winds. So, our priority is to ensure that the public remains informed about both storms, their anticipated track and to ensure that residents remain ready.”

The Minister also had a special message for the community, reminding members of the public to please check on the most vulnerable of our society.

Minister Weeks added, “I am keenly aware that storm season can be a very anxious and concerning time for residents. In that regard, I’m asking members of the public to please check in on our seniors and those vulnerable persons in our communities. Check on them and provide them with any assistance they need as we navigate this busy hurricane season.”
