The Attorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs and Constitutional Reform, the Hon. Kathy Lynn Simmons, JP, MP, is pleased to announce that a signature song has been dedicated to the Mirrors Programme by Bermudian artist, teacher and songwriter Patricia O'Connor.
After attending an All In! 8 Keys of Excellence event at Dellwood Middle School, Mrs. O'Connor was so inspired by the students, she produced a song for the Mirrors Programme.
Her passion for supporting Bermuda's youth was her introduction to the Mirrors Programme.
Mrs. O'Connor said, "My love for Bermuda's youth and my desire to positively impact their lives led me to volunteer for the Mirrors Programme while teaching at Dellwood Middle School. As soon as I heard the jingle, my mind started clicking, and I could hear a beat. As time went on, I thought about doing a song for the programme. I dismissed it, but a tune kept coming to me, so I wrote the lyrics, set up a time at the studio, and recorded it- All In! 8 Keys of Excellence."
Mrs. O'Connor added, "I believe in the Arts, and as a singer, I know how music has helped me in many situations. So I hope the programme takes the song a step further and produces a music video to use throughout the programme!"
Mrs O'Connor taught for 25 years in the local school systems. As a dedicated youth leader for 30 years, teaching music and directing choirs, she has touched many lives. Each year, she host a concert entitled "What's Love Got to do with it?" that is focused on teaching young people the true meaning of love.
Mirrors Programme Manager Kimberly Jackson stated, "Everyone in the Mirrors' Programme loved the song and embraced it. This song embodies our quest for local artist to work with our students. This song elevates the programme further. "
Ms. Jackson added, "It is a catchy tune, and the words fit for the character development programme. Patricia's song is now the theme song for the programme."
Minister Kathy Lynn Simmons said, " I wish to thank Mrs. Patricia O'Connor for her years of volunteer service to the Mirrors Programme. Now that Mirrors' has embraced the song as their theme song, it will be used to introduce the 8 Keys of Excellence character development programme in schools."
