Ministry of Social Development and Seniors Celebrated the Commencement of the Red Christmas Kettle Opening with The Salvation Army

The Minister of Social Development and Seniors, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP, shared, "I am thankful to have attended the kick-off event on Wednesday, December 1st, at City Hall for The Salvation Army’s Red Christmas Kettle Campaign.” 

"As Bermuda continues to focus efforts on moving beyond the Pandemic, we must ensure that our most vulnerable populations are provided for."

"The Salvation Army plays an important role in helping those in need on a path of stability during times of uncertainty. They have served our community since 1896 through their numerous programmes and services."

Minister Furbert added, "Their Emergency Shelter provides room and board, seven days a week, for persons who are without basic living resources. Their Lifeskills Management Programme and Addictions Programming. Their Pathway of Hope Programme which assists families in need who are seeking to move out of an undesirable living situation. The Salvation Army provides for a way out and a way up, often advocating for persons in order to better their living conditions." 

"Their Christmas Programming which is funded by their Christmas Kettle Campaign consists of the Christmas hamper programme for seniors and families; a toy drive for children; providing hot meals for the homeless, including full Christmas dinners; and hot meals for seniors."

"We are thankful that The Salvation Army supports our most vulnerable populations, and to assist we provide with a yearly grant to support operational expenses for the emergency shelter, however as I am sure you can imagine, the more they receive the more they can give."

Minister Furbert concluded, "I urge the residents of Bermuda to support The Salvation Army and this year’s Red Christmas Kettle Campaign, whether it be financially or volunteering of your time. The success of this campaign relies on us Bermuda. Let’s give those who need it the most, a reason to be joyous this Holiday Season.”
