Recently, the Ministry of Public Works in partnership with Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB), held a bulky waste clean-up to encourage residents to responsibly dispose of metal waste, rubble, furniture, appliances and other large items.
The event held on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 of January, involved the public grouping waste by item type, and then determining where specific items had to be delivered, either the Airport Waste Management Facility or Tynes Bay Waste To Energy Facility for processing.
In support of the initiative, dumping fees over the two days, and all trucking permits for Sunday, 12 January were waived.
The Ministry is pleased to announce that the bulk waste clean-up drive was a resounding success. In comparison to the 84 loads delivered over the same period last year, 199 loads of bulk waste were delivered for disposal, representing an increase of 137% or 115 loads.
“Much of the success of this event is owed to the people of Bermuda,” said Minister of Public Works, Lt. Col David Burch, “I thank you all for ensuring your bulk waste items were sorted and delivered to the correct location for disposal. Your efforts helped ensure the process ran smoothly and without delay.”
As a reminder, Christmas tree collection will be held this and next Saturday, the 18 and 25 of January.
The public is advised to adhere to the following Christmas Tree Collection schedule:
- East End Christmas Tree Collection will be held on Saturday, January 18 and includes all areas of St. George’s, Hamilton, Smith’s, Pembroke and most of Devonshire Parish with the exclusion of Tee Street and Kent Avenue.
- West End Christmas Tree Collection will be held on Saturday, January 25 and includes all areas of Sandys, Southampton, Warwick and Paget Parishes, as well as Tee Street and Kent Avenue in Devonshire.
