"The project remains within budget and by embracing these technologies, we are enhancing our ability to safeguard our community and ensure that Bermuda remains at the forefront of modern policing techniques," said Minister of National Security Michael Weeks, JP, MP.

Minister Weeks, in a second visit to the CCTV command centre at the Police COMOPS compound in Prospect, witnessed the ongoing training of law enforcement personnel on the new islandwide system.

The system integrates artificial intelligence-driven technologies, improving the standards in public safety and law enforcement efficiency.

During his visit last week, Minister Weeks observed the specialised training sessions where police officers are equipped to utilise the new video and analytics system.

The training includes mastering AI technologies such as facial recognition, object tracking, and anomaly detection, which are crucial for enhancing the officers' capabilities in monitoring and responding to security incidents across Bermuda.

The Minister expressed his enthusiasm for the project, adding, "I was very impressed by the dedication of our CCTV team, all of whom are Bermudian, who are mastering these tools to keep our island safe."

The training programme is expected to enhance the operational efficiency of Bermuda's law enforcement agencies by enabling officers to detect and address security threats more effectively and proactively.

As the Ministry previously stated, the project's islandwide implementation encountered delays due to frequent storms last summer and other circumstances beyond the control of the Ministry and its CCTV partner Digicel.

However, despite these delays, significant progress has been made in installing this new technology, and the Government is well on its way to delivering on its promise.

The aim is to have the project completed by 31 July 2024.
