Hamilton, Bermuda, May 28, 2024 – The Minister of Transport, the Hon. Wayne L. Furbert, JP, MP, is pleased to announce that United Airlines will resume year-round service from Newark Liberty International Airport to Bermuda for the first time since 2016. Since then, the air service has been seasonal, with gradual increases in scheduled flights in recent years.
In February, Minister Furbert, in close collaboration with Bermuda’s air service development team, held a productive meeting with representatives from United Airlines at their headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. The focus of these discussions was to explore the possibility of extending United Airlines’ seasonal flight schedule for the route between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA) in Bermuda. This service, historically operated throughout the year, was the subject of our joint efforts to reinstate or elongate this year-round service.
Minister Furbert expressed his satisfaction with the decision, stating, “We have always strived for United to resume year-round air service from Newark, and I am grateful for their continued commitment to the Bermuda route. This decision is a win for our tourism and business sectors, and especially for our residents who frequently travel to and from the New York area. United Airlines, a reliable and valued partner for Bermuda for 35 years, has once again demonstrated their dedication to our community, and we eagerly anticipate further strengthening our relationship in the future.”
The Minister also congratulated United Airlines on their 35th anniversary of providing air service to Bermuda, operated by what was then Continental Airlines. He said, “United Airlines has been a part of Bermuda’s aviation history and has contributed to our economic and social development. I commend them for their dedication and service to our island and wish them many more years of success.”
United Airlines will resume year-round service from Newark to Bermuda starting on June 1, 2024, with daily flights in the summer and four flights per week in the winter.
