Minister of National Security Meets with Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service Management

On Thursday, 21 April, the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Michael A. Weeks, JP MP, met with the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service (BF&RS) leadership at the Hamilton Fire Station as part of his familiarisation with the uniformed services under his Ministry.

Minister Weeks said, “I am aware of the vital role that the BF&RS plays in saving lives and responding to emergencies.

“Today’s briefing has been a real eye-opener as to the complex operations that are performed on a daily basis and the high level of professionalism and skill that are brought to bear.”

The Minister was provided with insight into the positioning of trucks and personnel across the island when emergency calls are received and how the service continues to deliver despite the tight budgetary constraints across Government. The Minister was also briefed on how coverage is maintained when the ambulance at the Clearwater Fire Station responds to medical emergencies in the eastern parishes.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Weeks said, “I appreciate the time taken to enhance my understanding of the Fire Service, and I am eager to continue these discussions as we work to ensure that our residents continue to receive the response and support that they expect and deserve.
