Following a weekend of violence which has tragically left one man dead and two men in hospital recovering from gun shot wounds, the Minister of National Security, Renee Ming offered the following.
"My heart goes out to the young man's family who lost his life last night, and I extend to his loved ones my sincerest condolences," Minister Ming said. "I also wish the two gun shot victims a speedy recovery. I cannot imagine the horror felt in both the Somerset and the Pembroke Park neighbourhood this weekend with area residents having to experience these acts of gun and knife violence. These incidences are happening far too often. These are our neighbourhoods, and it should cause us all to be concerned as a community.
"The Gang Violence Reduction Team has been working over the weekend in the Pembroke Park area to assist that community in dealing with the trauma of the multiple shooting. They will also be present in the Somerset area today.
"I have been assured that the Bermuda Police Service is dedicating the necessary resources to address these incidents. But in the meantime, I am urging anyone who may know anything to please contact the police. As a community, we must come together, because enough is enough. Bermuda, we are better than this. We can and must do better."
