The Ministry of Public Works advised today that in an effort to ensure the safety of the public, one lane traffic will be in place along Scaur Hill, Somerset so that wall repairs can be made.
The traffic controls begin on August 28 and will be in place through early November, weather permitting. The lane closure will start in the westbound lane at #125 Somerset Road and finish at the junction of Lantana Road.
The Ministry of Public Works is keen to enact preventative wall repairs, this includes identifying and proactively address hazardous infrastructure. This particular area was flagged as part of the Ministry’s review, as the structure has deteriorated over the years.
Ministry of Public Works representatives will manage the lane closure with temporary traffic lights and during rush hours with stop-and-go signs.
The Ministry appreciates that there may be some inconvenience to residents, motorists and pedestrians travelling in and out of the west end. In that regard persons are urged to exercise caution and patience, particularly during the morning and afternoon rush hour commutes. If needed, commuters should factor in early departure times to their daily routes so that they aren’t adversely inconvenienced.
The Ministry encourages the cooperation of the public as they work to carry out these immediate repairs. Lastly, if members of the public notice a wall that seems to be compromised, they can email structures@gov.bm, and a ministry engineer will inspect the wall promptly.
