Today, the Ministry of Economy and Labour released the Department of Statistics’ January 2026 Consumer Price Index (attached).
In summary, consumers paid 2.2 per cent more in January 2026 than they did a year ago for the basket of goods and services included in the Consumer Price Index [CPI]. This level of inflation decreased 0.2 percentage points from the December 2025 annual inflation rate. Some highlights for January 2025 to January 2026 include:

The Health & Personal Care division increased 4.4 per cent.

The Transport & Foreign Travel division rose 5.0 per cent.

The Education, Recreation, Entertainment & Reading division increased 2.3 per cent.

The Rent division increased 1.5 per cent.

The Food division advanced 1.6 per cent.
Between December 2025 and January 2026, the average cost of goods and services was unchanged. Additional areas of note between December 2025 and January 2026 were as follows:
- The Fuel & Power division decreased 5.0 per cent.
- The Clothing & Footwear division rose 3.7 per cent.
- The Household Goods, Services & Supplies division increased 0.4 per cent.
- The Health & Personal Care division increased 0.1 per cent.
