The Ministry of Economy and Labour is pleased to announce the launch of its new Collective Bargaining Educational Video, an initiative aimed at increasing public awareness and understanding of collective bargaining and reaffirming the Government's commitment to protecting workers' rights and supporting constructive labour relations.
The short video explains what collective bargaining is, how the process works, and why it is important for both employers and employees. It forms part of the Ministry's ongoing commitment to improving public understanding of workplace rights, responsibilities, and labour relations.
Collective bargaining is a structured process through which employers and workers, typically represented by a recognised trade union, negotiate terms and conditions of employment.
These negotiations may cover wages, working hours, leave entitlements, health and safety standards, benefits, and other workplace matters. Collective agreements provide a clear framework that helps guide workplace relationships and supports fair, constructive dialogue between employers and employees.
The Minister of Economy and Labour, the Hon. Jason Hayward, JP, MP, said, "Collective bargaining has been one of the most important mechanisms for improving the lives of working people in Bermuda. Strong unions and constructive labour relations have helped create safer workplaces, better wages, greater employment protections, and more equitable working conditions.
This educational video reflects our commitment to ensuring that both workers and employers understand the value of collective bargaining and the important role it plays in creating fair, stable, and productive workplaces."
The Minister added, "The Government remains steadfast in its support for the right of workers to organise and bargain collectively. We believe that when employers and unions engage in good-faith dialogue, everyone benefits—workers, businesses, and Bermuda's economy.
"Education is essential to strengthening our industrial relations framework, and this resource will help foster greater understanding, cooperation, and respect across our workforce."
The launch of the Collective Bargaining Educational Video is part of the Ministry's broader efforts to strengthen Bermuda's labour market through education, modernisation, and the promotion of internationally recognised labour standards.
The Ministry encourages employers, employees, trade unions, educational institutions, and members of the public to view the video and share it widely as a valuable resource for understanding one of the cornerstones of healthy workplace relations.
