
As celebrations take shape for International Women’s Day (IWD), which is celebrated annually on March 8th, the Government of Bermuda will once again recognise the occasion by hosting a series of events this week to shine a spotlight on women in the Public Service.
This year’s theme is #AccelerateAction.
And to capitalise on the theme, women in the public service will look to seize opportunities to drive transformative change through leadership and representation; increased mentorship and support; and implementing policies to ensure a more equitable workplace and society.
To help draw attention to IWD 2025, the Public Service is hosting the following events:
- March 5, Under the auspices of the Public Service’s International Women’s Day Committee, the popular IWD Wellness Walk around Hamilton will once again take place. Participants depart the Cabinet Office at 12.30 pm. Interested individuals who wish to participate in the walk can sign up here: IWD Wellness Walk Register
- March 7, The Government will host the “Empower, Thrive & Shine: Women’s Wellness Celebration Fair 2025”, from 11.00 a.m. - 3.00 p.m., at Pier Six. Hosted by the Public Service this wellness fair will showcase and offer an array of health information provided on a woman’s physical, nutritional, financial, mental and holistic wellbeing.
Today, Cherie Whitter, Head of the Public Service said, “On International Women’s Day, our female officers in the public service will join millions of women around the globe in celebration and recognition of women’s rights and equality. This year’s theme is #AccelerateAction.
“As we celebrate International Women's Day, I am proud to highlight the incredible contributions of our more than 2,400 female officers in the public service. We plan on recognising International Women’s Day by hosting activities that aim to celebrate, educate and support our women in the public service.
“#AccelerateAction, underscores the urgency of advancing gender equality and women’s rights. As a measure of solidarity, our female officers will join other women in celebration and recognition of the progress we’ve made and the work that still lies ahead. Together, we can accelerate action and create a more inclusive and equitable future for all.”
As a note, the March 5th lunchtime IWD Wellness Walk will cause some minor traffic delays. Commuters and motorists are advised to make alternative route arrangements.
