GEC 2017 Champion Catalyser Compass Award

Once Again Bermuda takes home the Champion Catalyser award at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress 2017

Distinguishing itself on the global stage, Bermuda once again won the Champion Catalyser Compass Award at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress 2017 in Johannesburg last night. The Award celebrates the country with the most Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) partners per capita. This is the fourth time that Bermuda has received the award since Bermuda began holding GEW in 2008.

The GEW Bermuda Host Committee accepted the award in front of Roberto Urbieta, President GEN Paraguay and Elaine Gold, Founder of GEN UK in front of delegates from 170 countries. “This award celebrates the country who has capitalised on its entrepreneurial ecosystem and harnessed the support of the largest number of the jurisdiction’s partners,” said Ewan Gaffney of GEN UK. Said the Host Committee: “This win is a true testament to our commitment to and unwavering support of our Bermuda’s remarkably enterprising start-ups and entrepreneurs. Since we joined this movement, Bermuda’s calendar has grown from a humble 5 events and 4 partners, turning the yearly GEW into a much-anticipated time of the year.”

Every November, Bermuda joins over 170 countries in showcasing how entrepreneurship significantly contributes to economic development locally and globally. Throughout the month of November, the local Host Committee partners with public and private sector organisations to create a full schedule of events ranging from competitions to workshops, and a myriad of activities designed to stimulate creative solutions, jumpstart innovation and celebrate the local entrepreneurial spirit. This year, Bermuda held 46 events and that staggering success was celebrated at last night’s Compass Awards ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Bermuda Host Committee is made up of the, the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation, the Department of ICT Policy and Innovation, and the Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative of Bermuda (registered charity no. 616). Formed in 2008, the Host Committee strives to inspire the new generation of entrepreneurs and creative thinkers and celebrate home-grown entrepreneurship in its many forms.
