Entitlement to Time Off From Work to Vote

The Parliamentary Registrar today reminded employers that in accordance with section 36(3) of the Parliamentary Election Act 1978, “every parliamentary elector whose name appears in the parliamentary register for a constituency in which a contested parliamentary election is held shall, if he is in employment, be entitled to receive from his employer without penalty sufficient time off work on the polling day to enable him to travel to the election room and there record his vote.”
