On Friday, 10 May, the Government of Bermuda presented Mr. Dwayne Caisey from the Department of Education with a Public Service Excellence Award for the month of April.
Mr. Caisey was recognized for his outstanding efforts to advance the refurbishment of Lyceum Preschool. In his role as Facilities Manager, he is celebrated for coordinating teams from the Department of Education, the Ministry Public Works, Education Reform Units, and private contractors to successfully prepare the school site and learning environment for its students return on April 22nd, 2024.
For the past eight months, Lyceum had been temporarily housed at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo, in preparation for the transformation of Francis Patton Primary into one of Bermuda's first Parish Primary Schools. The scope of work needed to prepare Lyceum was extensive, as the goal was to create the School Transformation Team’s vision for a 21st-Century learning environment designed to engage students in new ways of learning and thinking.
Mr. Caisey received a formal commendation from the Education Reform Unit for his impressive collaboration and leadership skills to ensure the timely execution of these complex plans. Lyceum Preschool's newly renovated outdoor spaces and classrooms feature ten benches with umbrellas, planter boxes, and STEM centers for interactive learning. Inside, fresh coats of paint, brand new flooring, lighting, and furniture create a modern and vibrant environment, optimizing the learning experience for students. The upgrades were met with excitement by students who returned to their new and improved school in April, and a grand reopening is anticipated to welcome new students in September.
Today, Premier Burt congratulated Mr. Dwayne Caisey on his award. He said, “Having worked with Mr. Caisey in several different roles since I became Premier, I have seen first-hand his dedication as a public officer. It is great to see him recognised for his work in supervising and coordinating the works at Lyceum Preschool and ensuring the safety of students and staff amidst ongoing construction. Dwayne is a consummate professional, and I congratulate him for this recognition.”
Head of the Public Service, Cherie Whitter, said: “Bravo, Mr. Caisey! You’ve made a significant impact on the success of this project through effective leadership, a well-defined plan, and a commitment to excellence. The entire Public Service Executive extends its gratitude and appreciation for your ongoing contributions.”
