The Department of Education would like to take an opportunity to update parents on various changes to the PowerSchool program, caused by required updates to the system.
It should be noted that PowerSchool is currently functioning properly and is available and accessible to all parents. Parents who do not have access to a home computer or smartphone are encouraged to utilise free internet provided at the Bermuda Library and other access points.
Parents should be aware that required upgrades made to PowerSchool have caused a minor change to how they interface with the log-in portion of the program. It has been determined that issues experienced with log-in are being caused by one of the following:
- The upgrade requires parents to use their e-mail address as a unique identifier when logging- in. If parents have not upgraded their log-in, they will have to do so.
- Some parents have multiple PowerSchool accounts linked to one e-mail address. This was previously allowed but is no longer in place due to the upgrade.
- Some parents attempted to set up their accounts and did not complete the process. As a result, when they tried to access PowerSchool on another occasion, they were unable to do so.
In cases two and three, parents will get a message saying that their e-mail address is already in use. If this occurs, parents should contact support, and the multiple e-mail addresses will be reduced to one account. The account will then be re-setup and emailed to the parent.
Parents should note that PowerSchool is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As the Bermuda Public School System moves towards Standards-Based Grading, parents can expect to have the capability to monitor the trends of their child’s progress for each standard/learning intention - with specific information about what their child knows and can do.
As the Ministry and Department work together to finalize the future of grading in Bermuda’s public schools, teachers will be expected to update grade books every two weeks. Currently, there is a variance from school to school with respect to grades being input by teachers, a variance that will be reduced this month forward.
Parents with further questions or parents who need to contact support should e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
