Students at Dalton E Tucker Primary School participated in an Egg Drop Competition. The competition, a culmination of weeks of STEM activities, has students put their engineering skills to the test by designing safety devices to protect eggs from cracking upon impact.
As part of their STEM activities, classes at Dalton E Tucker tested the devices on Friday, March 22, 2024, when each class could demonstrate the effectiveness of their designs.
Students designed eight devices for the competition. The school partnered with the Port Royal Fire Station. To make the competition even more thrilling, Firefighters from the station tested the safety devices by dropping them from the top of the station building. With chants of "drop that egg" from the Minister of Education, the Hon. Diallo Rabain, JP, MP, and enthusiastic students, the firefighters dropped the eggs with precision.
Minister Rabain said, "The Egg Drop Competition not only provided students with a fun and engaging way to apply their STEM knowledge but also fostered teamwork and critical thinking skills. Through partnerships with organisations like the Port Royal Fire Station, Dalton E Tucker continues to inspire students with real-world experiences. Congratulations to the four students whose devices survived the challenge."
