Consulate march

The Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne M. Caines, JP, MP, commented in advance of today’s scheduled march.

Minister Caines said, “We are aware of a planned march for today. Freedom of expression and public demonstrations are time honoured and effective practices guaranteed under our Constitution. Such forms of assembly are part of healthy democracy and we respect an individual’s right to peacefully protest.

“We want to encourage participants to conduct themselves in a respectful and responsible manner as they share and express their views during this public forum. I have spoken to the Commissioner of Police and he has advised that Police will be present and that a liaison officer has contacted the organizers of the march to ensure that today's activities run smoothly.

“Lastly, it’s critically important to remember that today’s march is taking place against the backdrop of a global pandemic. In that regard if individuals plan to assemble, I am urging you to please exercise the appropriate health and safety protocols. Please wear a mask or face covering. Please practise physical distancing. And most of all, please act responsibly for the safety of yourself and your loved ones.”
