Senior policy officials from the Cayman Islands Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport & Development (PAHITD) recently met with members of the Ministry of Transport in Bermuda.

Alicia de Vries and Andrew Ashton, currently serving with the Cayman Islands Government on secondment from the UK Department for Transport, represented the Cayman Islands Government. The Cayman Islands Government arranged the meetings to gain insights into Bermuda's transportation operations that could potentially inform enhancements to the Cayman Islands' transportation system.

The meetings focused on Bermuda's public transportation infrastructure, including buses, ferries, and public service vehicles, and the regulatory frameworks supporting each component of our complex, multifaceted system.

The discussions were comprehensive, covering policy frameworks, operational intricacies, and financial aspects, all of which are crucial to the effective functioning of the transportation ecosystem.

Minister of Transport, the Hon. Wayne Furbert, JP, MP, underscored the significance of the meeting, stating, "The Ministry team were pleased to host the meeting. The visit strengthened bilateral relations and set the stage for continued cooperation and promising opportunities for future collaboration. We are preparing for a forthcoming visit by the Hon. Minister, Johany "Jay" Ebanks, Minister of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport & Development for the Cayman Islands, in the coming months."
