Caribbean Tsunami Exercise to be Conducted March 10, 2022

Bermuda will join other regional Disaster Management Agencies in the Caribbean for a tsunami response exercise on March 10, 2022.

The Minister of National Security, the Hon. Renee Ming JP, MP, will deliver the opening address to the exercise participants, expected to run from 9 am until 12 pm.

The exercise, titled CARIBE WAVE 22, will be conducted virtually and simulate a widespread Tsunami Threat throughout the Caribbean and adjacent regions, which requires the implementation of national and local tsunami response plans.

Representatives from on-island key stakeholder agencies will take part in discussions to develop further tsunami contingency plans for this infrequent but potentially devastating event.

The exercise is sponsored by the UNESCO/IOC Intergovernmental Coordination Group for Tsunami and Other Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (ICG/CARIBE-EWS), the Caribbean Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), the Centro de Coordinación para la Prevención de los Desastres Naturales en América Central (CEPREDENAC), EMIZ Antilles and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
