Good evening, ladies and gentlemen,
It is a pleasure to join you this evening as we celebrate the successful completion of the Bermuda Teacher Induction Programme.
Tonight is, first and foremost, about you—the inductees.
Over the past two years, you have embraced the challenges, opportunities, and responsibilities that come with entering one of the most important professions in our society. You have learned, adapted, persevered, and grown. You have spent countless hours planning lessons, building relationships, and refining your craft. That commitment deserves to be recognized and celebrated.
The theme for this cohort, “Rooted in Growth and Rising in Strength,” beautifully reflects the journey you have undertaken. Like a young tree developing strong roots before reaching upward, you have spent these two formative years establishing the knowledge, skills, confidence, and resilience that will sustain you throughout your careers.
Teaching is not simply a profession; it is a calling. Every day, you have the opportunity to inspire curiosity, nurture potential, and help young people discover their strengths. The impact of a teacher extends far beyond the classroom walls. Long after lessons are forgotten, students remember the educators who believed in them, challenged them, encouraged them, and helped them see what was possible.
While tonight celebrates your achievement, it is also important to acknowledge those who have supported you along the way. To the mentors who shared their experience, guidance, and encouragement, thank you for investing in our newest educators. Your commitment has helped shape the next generation of teaching professionals within Bermuda's public school system.
To the inductees, I hope you take a moment this evening to reflect on how far you have come. The growth you have experienced over these two years is significant, and you should be proud of what you have accomplished. More importantly, remember that your journey as an educator is only beginning. Continue to ask questions, seek new ideas, embrace learning, and remain open to growth. The strongest teachers are those who never stop learning themselves.
As Minister of Education, I want you to know that we value the contribution you make to the lives of Bermuda's children. The future of our country is shaped every day in our classrooms, and each of you now plays a vital role in that work.
Thank you for choosing to serve, to lead, and to make a difference. Your dedication, compassion, and professionalism will leave a lasting mark on the students and communities you serve.
Congratulations on reaching this important milestone. May you remain rooted in growth, continue rising in strength, and find joy and purpose in the profound difference you make in the lives of others.
Congratulations, and thank you.
