Bermuda represented at major shipping conference

The Department of Maritime Administration (DMA), in association with the Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA) and the members of the Bermuda business and shipping community are attending the biennial “Posidonia International Shipping Exhibition 2016”, which began Monday and continues through Friday, in Athens, Greece.

The DMA delegation includes the Registrar of Shipping and a Senior surveyor from the DMA Satellite Office in London.

This is the first time that Bermuda is represented in this exhibition with its own booth in the pavilion, backed by an experienced team of marketing and business promotional personnel.

Minister of Tourism, Transport and Municipalities Senator the Hon. Michael M. Fahy JP said, “I believe it is important that Bermuda’s business community joins with the Registrar and other officials to fly the Bermuda flag at events like these. It is a key strategy in building the island’s shipping registry, which is a worthwhile goal of this Government.

“This is an important conference to attend, as it is one of the largest shipping exhibitions in Europe. The trade show, fair and exhibition is located at the Metropolitan Expo and was expected to attract nearly 20,000 delegates.”

The event is well attended by ship owners, ship operators and managers, ship builders, shipping lawyers, ship registries, engine and equipment manufacturers etc., from all over Europe and other interested countries.

It is a forum for buyers and sellers of ships, shipbrokers, ship builders, ship equipment manufacturers and other shipping service providers such as ship registries, nautical schools, maritime lawyers, survey organizations etc., and is a worthwhile meeting place for shipping business.
