BEDC Seminar To Show How To Access Alternative Sources Of Financing

The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) will host the Accessing Alternative Financing Seminar to help entrepreneurs understand how to get access to other forms of financing. The seminar will be held at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on Tuesday, April 19th, 2016 from 8:30am – 11:30am.

In Bermuda, most business financing consists of obtaining bank loans for business startup, growth, and sustainability.  However; traditional debt financing is only a small piece of the financing pie with regards to the options entrepreneurs should consider when seeking financing.  This seminar is designed to educate, inform, and offer resources for Bermuda’s small and medium enterprises.

Some of the topics that will be covered include: identifying alternative forms of financing such as angel investments, equity financing, crowdfunding; understanding which type of financing is right for your business.  In addition panellists will discuss how to best position your business for private-sector financial support and accessing the local investor network.

Lori Rockhead, Senior Manager, KPMG Advisory Limited, will moderate a panel discussion that includes: Alexander Werther, CFA, FRM; Kim Perdikou, Board of Directors, iPhotonix - Investor/Board Director, REBBL; Philipp Schmidt, Owner, Burgwalden Ltd. - Partner, IBIS Capital Limited; and Cheryl Hayward-Chew, President & CEO, Meyer Group of Companies - Chairman, Polaris Holding Company Ltd.

BEDC Executive Director, Erica Smith stated: "BEDC supports local businesses by providing loan guarantee assistance when needed. In recent times, there has been a scale back of bank financing and businesses are looking for options. As a result we recognised that there is a knowledge and opportunity gap in Bermuda with regard to alternative sources of financing. This seminar is our way to help try to fill that gap, by offering entrepreneurs information on alternative ways that they can obtain the financing they need to ensure that their businesses can survive and thrive.”
