Deputy Premier and Minister of Home Affairs, the Hon. Walter H. Roban, JP, MP joined the Premier of Bermuda, the Hon. David E. Burt, JP, MP in representing Bermuda at COP28 2023 which was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 30 November – 12 December 2023.

The 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change also referred to as COP28 saw delegates from around the world come together to negotiate global goals for tackling climate change and present their countries’ plans for contributing to those goals and also to report on their progress. Governments agreed on policies to limit global temperature rises and adapt to impacts associated with climate change.

COP28 saw leaders come together from governments, businesses, NGOs and civil society to find solutions to the issues which affect the world.

This year’s conference was hosted by the United Arab Emirates which holds the COP28 Presidency. The Presidency’s plan to deliver on the pillars of the Paris Agreement focused on four areas:

  1. Transitioning to Clean Energy

  2. Centering nature, people, lives and livelihood

  3. Delivering on Finance

  4. Mobilizing inclusivity

There are 7 years remaining to achieve critical 2030 climate targets.
