Deputy Premier and Minister of Home Affairs, the Hon. Walter H. Roban, JP, MP attended the "COP26" conference (which is short for the Conference of the Parties) held at the SEC Centre in Glasgow, Scotland as the representative on behalf of Bermuda.

Bermuda's participation was facilitated through the assistance of the Bermuda Government London Office and Government House.

The conference was hosted and organised by the United Kingdom and Italy which brought parties together to accelerate the action towards the goal of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Almost 200 countries were represented which included Government representatives, country leaders, negotiators and others who arrived for 14 days of talks.

These talks centred around countries working together to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees, the aim was 1.5 degrees, to adapt to the impacts of a changing climate.

The commitment to aim for 1.5 degrees is important because every fraction of a degree of warming will result in the loss of many more lives and livelihoods being damaged.

"COP26" concluded in Glasgow with all countries agreeing the Glasgow Climate Pact to keep 1.5C alive and finalise the outstanding elements of the Paris Agreement.
