Premier visits latest mobile vaccine site

~ To date, more than 1,000 vaccinces given as part of the Close to Home mobile programme ~

Earlier today (May 16), 143 people were vaccinated at the Victor Scott Primary School as part of the Close to Home mobile vaccination programme.

Of the 143 individuals, 131 people received their first dose and 12 individuals received their second dose. Since the mobile vaccination programme began on April 27, a total of 1,012 vaccinces have been given (including today).

About 90% of injections given to date in the programme have been first dose individuals. Today’s numbers add to the continuing success of the Close to Home mobile vaccination programme.

Premier David Burt visited Victor Scott today to extend words of encouragement to those being vaccinated, and to also express his appreciation to the dedicated health care professionals working at the mobile site.

The Premier was joined by Deputy Premier Walter Roban, Minister of Finance, Curtis Dickinson and MP Ianthia Simmons-Wade.

Premier Burt said, "We've pledged to make it simple and easy for our residents to get vaccinated. And we're very pleased that the community is taking advantage of our Close To Home mobile vaccination programme. What's becoming clear is that this method of getting vaccinated is proving to be very popular with our community, so we're extremely encouraged by its success.

"The mobile sites are expressly designed to help those individuals who have not yet registered for the COVID-19 vaccine; do not have access to the internet, and prefer to register in person; or have additional questions about the COVID-19 vaccine.

"I must commend the Bermuda Health Council teams, Department of Health nurses and the many volunteers for organising and managing the mobile vaccination programme. They are on hand to provide answers to any questions the public may have, ensuring that this is an incredibly efficient and informative process."

The public is reminded that there are mobile vaccination centres available three times a week in various locations around the island.

This week the mobile vaccination programme will be at the following locations:

·         Tuesday, 18-May, Penno's Wharf in St. George's from 10.00 am – 2.00 pm

·         Thursday, 20-May, The Southampton Princess from 10.00 am – 2.00 pm.

·         Saturday, 23-May, TCD in Hamilton from 10.00 am – 2.00 pm.

This week's mobile vaccination programme will be for individuals who wish to get their first dose, as well as for those who need to receive their second vaccine shot, following their first dose three weeks ago.

Additionally, a mini-bus service is available to take people from their homes to the mobile vaccination sites and back to their homes afterwards.

Anyone wanting to use the service should call 533-5903 between 10.00 am and 1.30 pm.

The Premier concluded, "Each of us has a role to play in stopping the spread of the coronavirus. Follow Public Health guidelines, wear a mask, practice good hand hygiene, maintain physical distance and download the WeHealth Bermuda app. Do the research, talk with your doctor and make an informed decision about getting the COVID-19 vaccine."
