The Minister of Tourism Development & Transport the Hon. Shawn G. Crockwell JP MP is pleased to advise the public that Mrs. Erica Rance Mill has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Bermuda Road Safety Council (RSC).
The other new appointees are Insurance Executive, Wayne R. Swan, and Compliance Specialist Nekeisha Cameron who join existing members Dennis Lister Jr., Roger Kendall and Alexis Swan.
The new RSC Chairman stated: “I am delighted to participate in public service. I’ve been active in the community for many years and this is just another opportunity to serve my island home and make a difference.
“All Bermudians should be concerned about the issue of road safety. I would like to create a road safety movement, by implementing cross generational strategies which involve all road users. It is imperative that we get people thinking about how to make the roads safer through their own behaviour.”
Mrs. Rance Mill takes over as Council Chairperson from Dr Carlton Crockwell JP.
Minister Crockwell said, “I wish to thank Carlton for his five years of service on the Road Safety Council, in which the last three he served as Chairman.
“Service to the community is one of the greatest contributions we can make to our island home. And all of those who step forward to give their time, energy and ideas in these important endeavours must be commended for their efforts.”
The new Chairman was until recently a part of the Road Safety Working Group established through the Ministry.
She explained, “The working group eventually determined that CADA and The Road Safety Council, which work in conjunction with the Bermuda Police Service and its excellent Road Safety Strategy, was already covering a lot of the ground on which we were focused.
“As the key stakeholders, they were already actively involved so it made far greater sense to disband and continue our efforts under the umbrella of the Road Safety Council with close consultation with the Police and CADA.”
Mrs. Rance Mill is a specialty reinsurance underwriter with Markel Re. Markel is a specialty insurance, reinsurance and investment company.
Minister Crockwell said, “We welcome Erica to this challenging position and I’m happy to report that she shares our view that road safety is an extremely important local issue. I look forward to the energy she brings to the Road Safety Council.
“We must be thankful for those Council members, past and present, for their service. They consist of community minded individuals who are eager and willing to support the country in road safety initiatives.”
