-
Location
Washington, DC

The Minister met with the Administrator of the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA), General Charles Bolden; the Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Dr. Willie May; the Chief of the International Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Ms. Mindel De La Torre; and executives from several prospective and Bermuda satellite companies.

General Bolden and the Minister discussed the History of NASA in Bermuda, NASA's current mobile and fixed tracking facilities and the Agency programmes open to Bermudians.

Dr. May and the Minister discussed the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and the Agency's international outreach programme that assists countries to use that framework to develop cybersecurity national policies.

The meeting with Ms. De La Torre focused on the moratorium that would allow Bermuda's satellite network (BermudaSat-1) to serve the U.S. Market.

The meetings with the prospective satellite companies focused on the opportunities and benefits of using Bermuda as an off-shore jurisdiction, particularly as a satellite network filing administration and a captive insurance centre. The existing Bermuda companies were thanked for their continuing support of Bermuda and provided valuable feedback on new and innovative services that could be of mutual interest.
