EMERGENCY POWERS (COVID-19 SHELTER IN PLACE) REGULATIONS 2020

EXTENSION OF DURATION NOTICE

WHEREAS a proclamation was issued on 1 April 2020 under section 14(3) of the Constitution declaring that a state of emergency exists in Bermuda, which proclamation would cease to be in force at the expiration of a period of fourteen days, unless its continuance in force is extended by resolution of both Houses of the Legislature, in accordance with sections 14(5) and (6) of the Constitution;

AND WHEREAS the Emergency Powers (COVID-19 Shelter in Place) Regulations 2020 (“the Regulations”) came into effect at 6am on 4 April, and regulation 18(2) of those Regulations provides, in accordance with section 2(2) of the Emergency Powers Act 1963, for the Regulations to cease to have effect at 6am on 15 April 2020, subject to any extension (not exceeding three months) approved before that time by resolution of both Houses of the Legislature and communicated by message to the Governor;

AND WHEREAS, in accordance with section 14(6) of the Constitution and regulation 18(2) of the Regulations, the House of Assembly and Senate resolved on 6April 2020 to extend the proclamation of emergency and the duration of the Regulations until 6am on 18 April 2020, and communicated that fact by message to the Governor;

NOW THEREFORE, in accordance with regulation 18(3) of the Regulations, this Notice confirms that the Regulations shall continue in effect until 6am on 18 April 2020.
