Post Tropical Cyclone Jerry Update

Please note the brief statement from the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne M. Caines, JP, MP regarding the latest on Post Tropical Cyclone Jerry.

Following my advisory from earlier this morning, I wish to advise that we continue to operate as business as usual this afternoon. The midday Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) advisory notes that a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Bermuda. The Emergency Measures Organisation (EMO) continues to monitor the developments with Post Tropical Cyclone Jerry, which shows more signs of weakening.

Currently, roads remain clear, all public schools are open and while there are a few smaller government sections that are hampered due to no electricity, essentially all Government services operating as normal. As of the noonday BWS update, Post Tropical Cyclone Jerry’s closest point of approach will be 10.00 pm tonight. The onset of tropical storm force winds will be felt at about 3.00 pm today.

Again as I noted earlier this morning, I encourage everyone to move about the island with care and caution during the increased winds which are expected to start this afternoon and end about midnight. Lastly, the EMO continues to monitor the developments with Tropical Storm Karen and we will make a determination later this afternoon about standing down the Royal Bermuda Regiment.
