The Department Of Education Addresses T.N. Tatem Concerns Regarding Potential Mould

The Department of Education (DOE) has been notified that students and staff at the T.N. Tatem Middle School have shared concerns about potential mould in some parts of the building.

To address possible concerns such as these, the DOE took action by instituting ongoing mould checks at all public schools. As a result of these checks, one room at T.N. Tatem has been closed for an extended period of time.

Earlier in the school year, all preschool, primary and middle schools were inspected and the second round of inspections for this school year commenced this month.

As an immediate plan of action for T.N. Tatem Middle School, the Department of Education has arranged for a mould assessment to start today, 18 February, 2019 while simultaneously addressing the concerns that have been shared.

Commissioner of Education, Kalmar Richards commented, “Our first priority is to ensure safe and healthy school facilities for the Bermuda Public School System.”
