The Ministry of Transport and Regulatory Affairs continues to lead Bermuda’s exploration of its space assets in an effort to determine future economic benefit.

The next step is participation at the 34th Space Symposium this week at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The Minister, Deputy Premier the Hon. Walter H. Roban JP MP, and technical officers are joining commercial, government and military space industry professionals for the event that begins tomorrow (Monday April 16).

Thousands of space professionals and space industry leaders from more than 40 countries are expected to participate as speakers, panelists, attendees and exhibitors in this year’s symposium, one of the world’s largest space events.

On Wednesday, the Deputy Premier will represent Bermuda on a panel entitled “Emerging Space Economies”. He will share the stage with the Director General of the United Arab Emirates Space Agency and the General Director of the Mexican Space Agency.

The Deputy Premier commented, “Bermuda is developing a comprehensive legal and regulatory framework to attract and enable the next generation of commercial space activity. The framework will expand Bermuda’s existing pro-business regulatory environment to support emerging space-related technologies and trends.

“We want to incentivise companies interested in this business to establish a presence in Bermuda. Our focus will be on providing an environment for such companies to flourish, while protecting and enabling the substantial interests of Bermudians.

“Attending this event provides us with an opportunity to network with a wide variety of people who can help advance our commercial and regulatory prospects.

“The Space Symposium is the leading event of its kind and billed as the premier global commercial, civil, military and emergent space conference.”
