Ministry Reaffirms Commitment to Student Success and Stakeholder Collaboration

Education

The Government remains committed to education transformation and to working with teachers, parents, students and other stakeholders to build an education system that prepares Bermuda’s children for success.

We recognize that educators have expressed concerns about workload, classroom behaviour, school environments and the pace of change. These concerns deserve to be heard and we take these concerns seriously. Teachers play a vital role in the success of our education system, and their perspectives will be an important part of this process.

Education transformation was undertaken because too many students were not achieving the outcomes they deserved and needed. While there have been adjustments to timelines and elements of implementation along the way, our goal has remained the same: creating a stronger public education system that gives every child the opportunity to succeed.

The Ministry has continued to engage with teachers, school leaders, parents and the wider community throughout this process. This engagement has included meetings with the Bermuda Union of Teachers, consultations with school leadership teams, parent and community information sessions, public updates on reform implementation, and ongoing opportunities for stakeholder feedback as plans have evolved.

The Ministry believes the most productive conversations are those that take place directly with stakeholders around the table, where concerns can be discussed openly and solutions can be developed collaboratively. While public discussion has an important role to play, lasting progress is achieved through meaningful engagement, mutual respect and a shared commitment to improving outcomes for students.

Over the coming months, that engagement will continue as we move forward with education reform. The Ministry will continue providing updates on implementation milestones, listening to stakeholder feedback and ensuring that the public remains informed about the work ahead.

We may sometimes disagree on the pace of change or the best path forward but those discussions are healthy and should continue. What is important is that we remain focused on the goal we all share: providing Bermuda’s children with the best possible education and the opportunities that come with it.

Our children only get one chance at an education. That is why we remain committed to working with teachers, parents, students and the wider community in a spirit of partnership and respect to ensure every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
