The Premier of Bermuda, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, is currently attending the 49TH Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), taking place from 6–8 July 2025.
Taking place in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Premier Burt is leading Bermuda’s delegation, which includes the Minister of Home Affairs, the Hon. Alexa Lightbourne, JP, MP, who holds responsibility for CARICOM, and MP Christopher Famous.
The delegation will participate in high level discussions with regional leaders under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Dr. The Most Hon. Andrew Holness.
The annual CARICOM Heads of Government Conference provides a platform for regional cooperation on issues such as climate resilience, trade, food security, health, education, technology, and regional security. This year’s meeting is taking place as more countries and territories are collaborating on national and global challenges, advancing shared development opportunities. Premier Burt will also update regional counterparts on Bermuda’s progress in areas such as digital finance.
Bermuda has been an Associate Member of CARICOM since 2003 and continues to benefit from engagement across various sectors, including youth development, public health, and education. The Government of Bermuda has received permission from the UK Government to explore full CARICOM membership, reflecting its long-standing commitment to deepening regional ties. Other Associate Members include: Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Turks & Caicos and Curacao.
Today Premier Burt said, “Bermuda is proud to once again participate in the CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting. Our Associate Membership has enabled collaboration across various sectors, and we look forward to strengthening these relationships. In a time of increasing economic and geopolitical uncertainty, regional partnerships and collaboration are more important than ever. We remain committed to deepening our engagement with the region as we pursue shared goals of economic progress, climate resilience, and development for our people.”
