Travelling Safely by Bus, Ferry, Taxi, Limousine or Minibus

The COVID‐19 virus is mainly spread from person to person by small virus-containing droplets that are exhaled when an infected person is speaking, singing, coughing, sneezing or breathing. Well-fitting masks are an effective form of personal protective equipment, forming a barrier from getting and spreading respiratory infections. They are effective because they help to prevent the person with COVID-19 from breathing out virus-containing droplets and they also help to protect the person who does not have COVID-19 from breathing in virus-containing droplets and particles.

Masks must be worn by all persons, including the operators and crew, when travelling by bus and ferry (not including the outside decks). Weather permitting, windows are to be left open as much as possible to promote fresh air ventilation.

Full capacity of the vehicle is allowed including standing passengers. The amount of standing passengers permitted will vary depending on the manufacturer's specifications. Bus operators will advise when the bus is at full capacity.

Passengers:

• Must sanitize hands upon entry,

• Must always wear masks throughout the journey,

• Cashless fare transactions are recommended by credit or debit card at the information kiosk, and,

• Must NOT travel on public transport if they are sick (instead they should stay home and follow the quarantine guidance).

Drivers, Operators and Crew:

• Must wear masks throughout the passenger journeys,

• Must ensure there is as much fresh air ventilation as possible (e.g. open windows),

• Must follow appropriate cleaning procedures, and, 

• May use flexi-glass between their seat and the passengers for added protection.

Notices should be posted stating that masks are mandatory for the journey.
