Government Announces New Immigration Residence Policies

Today, the Ministry of Economy and Labour announced the release of two important policy documents that provide clear guidance on permissions to reside in Bermuda. These documents reflect the Government's commitment to transparency, consistency, and safeguarding Bermuda's borders while supporting families and responsible residency.
The two new policies are:
-
Permissions to Reside in Bermuda – This document outlines guidelines for non-Bermudian students who wish to attend Bermuda College and individuals seeking permission to reside annually. The policy identifies eligibility, application requirements, residency conditions, renewal procedures, and enforcement measures.
-
Partner Residence Application Guidelines—These guidelines provide a framework to facilitate the reunification and continued residence in Bermuda of genuine partners of Bermudians, Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) holders, and Work Permit holders. The guidelines define "partner” and “sponsor,” set out financial and character requirements, and ensure that only genuine and subsisting relationships are recognised under Bermuda’s immigration framework.
Minister of Economy and Labour, the Hon. Jason Hayward, JP, MP, explained, “These new policies strengthen Bermuda’s immigration system by ensuring clarity, fairness, and accountability. They provide certainty for residents and their families while protecting the integrity of our immigration framework. With these measures, the Government is reinforcing its commitment to a balanced system that is transparent, responsible, and safeguards the interests of Bermuda and its people.”
