About WeHealth Bermuda

About the App

What is WeHealth Bermuda?

WeHealth Bermuda is a free smartphone application for Apple and Android devices. It provides anonymous COVID-19 exposure notifications between app users and is one of the most sophisticated apps available anywhere in the world for helping to control the spread of COVID-19.

How does WeHealth Bermuda work?

When smartphones with WeHealth Bermuda installed are near each other, the app uses anonymous Bluetooth signals to determine how close together the devices were, and for how long. If a WeHealth Bermuda user tests positive for COVID-19, they will receive a randomized verification code when they receive their test results from The Ministry of Health. That code can be entered into the app, and WeHealth Bermuda will then anonymously and automatically notify others through the app who were close enough, for long enough, to be at risk for exposure. Only the date and duration of exposure will be revealed. No personally identifying information is ever used by or sent through WeHealth Bermuda.

Why should I download WeHealth Bermuda?

Our families, neighbours, and communities depend on us to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Pairing WeHealth Bermuda’s exposure notifications with other preventive measures—such as face coverings, social distancing and manual contact tracing—means better protection from COVID-19 for us all.

Who can download WeHealth Bermuda?

We highly recommend all residents of Bermuda and visitors to the island download the app.

How do I download WeHealth Bermuda?

Because the technology behind WeHealth Bermuda is new, a smartphone with the latest operating system installed is required to use the app:

  • iPhone: Model 6S and newer with iOS version 13.7 or above installed

  • Android: Any smartphone that supports Bluetooth Low Energy and has Android Version 6 (API 23) or above installed

If your phone meets the requirements above, Android users can download the app from Google Play. iPhone users can get the app on Apple’s App Store

To verify the model of your phone and which operating system version it is currently running:

  • iPhone: Go to Settings > General > About. Look for your software version and model name on the About screen.

  • Android: Go to Settings > About > Software Information. Look for your Android version on the Software Information screen and model number on the About screen.

Is WeHealth Bermuda the same as contact tracing?

No. WeHealth Bermuda is a private exposure notification app that anonymously notifies those an infected person was in close proximity with, even if they don't know that person. Public Health contact tracing works with individuals who test positive for COVID-19 to manually identify and notify others they may have exposed in recent interactions.

Exposure Notifications

What are exposure notifications?

Exposure notifications are anonymous and private in-app push messages that let you know if you have been potentially exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, even before you may experience symptoms. Each notification provides guidance and the next best steps to take from The Ministry of Health, so you can protect others from potential exposure to COVID-19, too.

Who can send an exposure notification?

In order for WeHealth Bermuda to send an anonymous exposure notification, an app user must first test positive for COVID-19 and receive a randomized verification code from The Ministry of Health. Once the app user enters their private code into the app, WeHealth Bermuda will automatically and anonymously notify other app users who were close enough, for long enough, to trigger a notification.

How do I get a verification code?

To get a verification code, you must first have a positive COVID-19 test result. When you obtain your test result, The Ministry of Health will provide a randomized verification code for you to enter into the app. That code must be entered into the app in order for WeHealth Bermuda to send anonymous exposure notifications.

I tested positive, but I didn’t get a verification code. What do I do?

You should have received your randomized verification code from The Ministry of Health when you received your positive COVID-19 test result. If you are unable to locate your code, please contact The Ministry of Health for your code.

What do I do if I get an exposure notification?

Exposure notifications will provide the next best steps you should take, which are based on your potential exposure level. Please review each notification, and follow the instructions provided within the notification.

What happens if I don’t enter my verification code into the app?

WeHealth Bermuda can only send anonymous exposure notifications when users who test positive enter their randomized and anonymous verification code into the app.

Does the app work if I leave Bermuda?

WeHealth Bermuda was not designed for use outside of Bermuda. While the app will technically still work, WeHealth Bermuda can only detect potential COVID-19 exposures from other WeHealth Bermuda app users.

Privacy and security

How can WeHealth Bermuda be anonymous and still know how long I spend with someone?

WeHealth Bermuda uses anonymous and secure Bluetooth signals to detect when other WeHealth Bermuda app users are nearby. The app only notes the distance and duration of those Bluetooth signals in the app. No personally identifiable information is used or sent by WeHealth Bermuda.

How is my data and identity protected with anonymous exposure notifications?

Because WeHealth Bermuda does not collect or store any personally identifiable information, your identity is never revealed. The only thing you or others will see with an anonymous exposure notification is the date and duration of possible exposure, which is measured by the anonymous Bluetooth signals between WeHealth Bermuda app users.

What happens if I delete the app?

If you delete WeHealth Bermuda, the app is no longer available on your phone and you will no longer be able to send or receive exposure notifications. However, keep in mind, the more people who use the app, the better protected we all are from COVID-19.

App Tech Support

Will WeHealth Bermuda drain my data and/or battery?

No. Although WeHealth Bermuda runs in the background, even if the app isn’t “open,” the app uses very little data or battery life. Your data usage should not be noticeably affected by using WeHealth, and newer phones should not see a significant impact on battery usage.

Does WeHealth Bermuda require data or Internet access?

Without internet access, WeHealth Bermuda will still be able to detect Bluetooth signals from other WeHealth Bermuda app users, which are used to determine potential COVID-19 exposure. However, an internet connection is required for WeHealth Bermuda to send and deliver exposure notifications.

I’m having technical issues with the app. Who do I contact?
