2017 IT Career Guide
The Department of E-Commerce’s 2017 IT Career Guide targets students seeking a career path in the field of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). The Guide contains information on the various ICT-related careers in Bermuda, local IT courses, scholarships available, interviews with Bermudians in the field, information for those who are thinking about exploring ICT as a career path - from a road map of middle and high school classes to the value of personality tests, as well as different methods of IT study, from using the world’s leading universities to e-learning opportunities, and how social media can assist.
BizCamps is an annual technology-based weeklong programme that allows young aspiring entrepreneurs to learn about starting a company. During the course of one week, middle- and high-school students learn to incorporate business and financial management concepts into their business plans.
Cybertips.bm provides practical tips, resources and contact information to help parents, children, seniors and educators to use the Internet safely and be on guard against online predators, cyberbullying, and other inappropriate online content. The Cybertips team routinely visits schools to speak to students, teachers, and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) about the importance of good digital citizenship and gives tips on how to develop a clean digital reputation.
Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW)
GEW takes place over the month November when the whole Island turns its attention to and celebrates the importance of inspiring and connecting entrepreneurs. Part of a global movement, GEW is a full calendar of events, workshops, seminars, and networking opportunities focused on empowering and facilitating entrepreneurship and innovation.
Inspire eBusiness educates Bermuda’s entrepreneur, facilitates e-commerce, and raises awareness about conducting e-business to serve both local and international markets. Through regular workshops and seminars, and an annual StartUp Weekend, entrepreneurs are equipped with the appropriate knowledge and tools to unite business and technology.
Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA)
The Personal Information Protection Act lays out the requirements for organisations to follow guidelines governing the use of personal information in a manner that recognizes both the need to protect the rights of individuals and for organisations to use such personal information for the agreed purposes, in order to provide the services that Bermuda requires.
TechAwards is an annual competition that celebrates those whose business and/or educational ideas capitalize on technology and have a positive impact on life in Bermuda. The awards recognize local individuals and businesses who tap into their entrepreneurial spirit to use technology in a new ways to improve the way we live.
Technology Leadership Forum (TLF)
The TLF is a registered charity created through a private/public partnership that aims to provide qualified Bermudian talent in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to local employers. Since its founding, the TLF has exposed Bermuda’s ICT students to the many career paths which they can pursue in the industry. Its Summer Internship Programme matches college students studying ICT with local employers, attend classes and perform field work. Local industry leaders develop and deliver the intensive programme each summer and update it annually.
TechTalks is a lecture series that promotes ICT knowledge and educational initiatives in Bermuda’s business sector. TechTalks discuss topics that are of specific interest to the organisations’ ICT and finance personnel.
