The combined operations of Rescue Co-ordination Centre Bermuda and Bermuda Maritime Operations (ZBR) have a long reputation of providing a high quality of service to all mariners. One of the several functions recognized by the International Maritime Organisation as being of great importance is that of Marine Safety Information provider. The World-Wide Navigational Warning System, created as part of The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), provides for the promulgation of safety information vital to mariners operating within specific areas of the world. Recognizing Bermuda’s position in the Atlantic and that Bermuda Maritime Operations has the necessary operational capability to support the local and international maritime community, information is provided by a variety of means as listed below.

Notes. Bermuda Maritime Operations maintains a continuous 24 hour watch on the International Distress and Calling frequency 2182 kHz and on 4125 kHz, and VHF channels 16 and 27.  Also continuous watch is kept on Digital Selective Calling (DSC) frequencies 2187.5 KHz (area A2 station) and VHF channel 70.  All Urgent and Safety warnings are announced on VHF channel 16, 2182 KHz, and then repeated on the appropriate working frequency.

weather advisories; METAREA IV USA National Weather Service High Seas forecast 31N up to 67N, West of 35W, and USA NWS Southwest North Atlantic and Bermuda area weather forecasts.

3. Tropical weather advisories are included during June 1st to November 30th when the event concerned is
within the boundaries 18N to 42N and 50W to 80W.  Notices to Mariners include warnings of NAVAIDS failures for all offshore NAVAIDS.

4. A continuous broadcast is issued on Marine VHF Weather Channel 02 (162.4 MHz).  The local Marine Weather Forecast provided by the Bermuda Weather Service, is followed by tropical weather advisories (during June 1st to November 30th when the event concerned is within the boundaries 18N to 42N; 50W to 80W), and then by the USA National Hurricane Centre Tropical Weather Outlook.  Broadcast includes information on changes in Bridge operations.
