About the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO)

At the end of 2012 the Office of the CMO was moved out of the Department of Health and into Ministry Headquarters. This included the transfer of the following functions under this Office into Headquarters:

  • Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit
    This unit ensures surveillance and investigation of communicable and non-communicable diseases and follows up outbreaks, such as food and waterborne diseases. It is responsible for the routine collection, analysis , interpretation and distribution of information relevant for control and prevention of communicable and non-communicable disease. It also provides health education to health professionals and the general public.

      In 2014 the fees associated with registering healthcare professionals increased to reflect the cost of the service, including new fees for services incidental to registration (e.g. late renewal, issuing a certificate of professional standing). These fees are effective April 1st 2014.
