NASA and Department of Energy to Host Free Virtual Events

The Department of Energy and the National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) Invites Local Middle and High School Students and Teachers to Virtually Tour NASA and Attend the Northrop Grumman (NG-16) Education Launch Forum

The Department of Energy and the National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) invites all local middle and high school students and teachers to participate in two exciting FREE virtual events.

The first event is a virtual tour of the NASA launch facility at Wallops Island in Virginia on Monday, July 19th, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

This tour will be an exciting look into the facility that launched the four-stage Black Brant XII rocket that was visible in Bermuda in May 2021. It will be conducted by Ms. Linda Sherman, Directorate Education, who came to Bermuda in 2019 to conduct our first NASA Space Camp.

The second event is the Northrop Grumman (NG-16) Education Launch Forum on Tuesday, July 20th, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This forum will feature a presentation by Mr. Ricky Arnold, an astronaut and educator who spent time on the International Space Station. He will be sharing his experiences of living in space.

These events will be interactive and students will be able to ask questions in real time.

Both events are free of charge, and hosted through the Department of Energy, which also holds the portfolio for telecommunications, space and satellite.  Interested persons must register by sending an email to energy@gov.bm, and the links will be provided before the event.  Registration closes on Friday July 16th at 5 PM

Minister of Home Affairs, Deputy Premier the Hon. Walter Roban expressed, “Bermuda has enjoyed a special relationship with NASA since the advent of space exploration in the 1960’s.”

“We encourage our local middle and high schools students and teachers to take advantage of these free and exciting events. If you are curious about space, this is the perfect opportunity to explore your curiosity in an interactive way.”
